Latinos on Fast Track (LOFT) Institute STEM Boot Camp

  • The goals of the STEM Boot Camp is to expose students and young professionals to different STEM disciplines, equip them with useful analytical skills, and provide them with the opportunity to meet and learn from experts in STEM fields
  • Participation in the STEM Boot Camp is by invitation only for non-members of the LOFT Institute
  • Participation in the STEM Boot Camp is free of charge
  • The boot camp will be happening on Saturday April 30, 2011 in the MCC Theater  from 9am-2:30pm

NASA Internship Opportunities
  • NASA offers a wide variety of placements in disciplines such as engineering, earth sciences, physics, mathematics, and technology. Over 150 fall internship opportunities are available

USDA Public Service Leaders Scholarship Program

  • This program is organized by the U.S. Department of Agriculture
  • This program provides a combined scholarship and internship opportunity to college and university students leading to permanent employment with USDA upon completion of their degree. 
  • Students selected into the program will receive:
    1. Full-tuition scholarship
    2. Paid internship leading to permanent employment
    3. Employee benefits, mentoring, career development, and leadership training and use of a personal computer
  • Employees of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Student Career Experience Program (SCEP) participants are not eligible to apply for or receive this scholarship.
  • The USDA PSLS is open to students who meets the following requirements:
    1. U.S. citizen, or will attain citizenship within a year of being accepted to the program
    2. Currently enrolled in a college/university degree-seeking program with a minimum 2.75 GPA on a 4.0 scale
    3. Able to attend a mandatory orientation in Washington, D.C. from June 26-July 2, 2011
    4. Willingness to relocate upon graduation
    5. Have a strong interest in a career in public service with the USDA
    6. And meet major and class level requirements of each scholarship.
  • Selectees will intern during the summer and return to their home institution to complete degree requirements.
  • Airfare is paid for by the agency. 
  • Upon graduation, scholarship recipients become permanent employees of the USDA and must be prepared to work for USDA for one year for each year of educational assistance received.

Great Minds In Stem - HENAAC Scholarship Program
 
 
HENAAC Scholars ProgramForthe first time in our ten year history, the HENAAC Scholars Programawarded educational grants to over 100 stellar STEM students!  We hopeto do the same in 2011 and have a goal of providing over $200,000 inscholarships.  In 2010 scholarship dollar amounts ranged from $500 to$8,500. The total number of scholarships awarded in 2011 will be basedon final contributions given to the scholarship program by August 1,2011.

The Center for Gravitational Wave Astronomy (CGWA) at The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College (UTB/TSC) will sponsor its 7th annual two-week intensive program in gravitational wave astronomy (GWA). The purpose of the program is to provide senior undergraduate and beginning graduate students with the necessary background to begin research in gravitational wave astronomy. Leading experts will provide an introduction to:
  • Gravitational wave science
  • General relativity
  • Astrophysics of gravitational wave sources
  • Gravitational wave data analysis
  • and gravitational wave detector instrumentation

The school is open to students from around the world.  A limited number of scholarships for travel/lodging are available for students who are not US citizens.
